1. Light Transmission and Light Diffusion :
Bencore panels with transparent facings, when used as interior partitions, doors, counter ceilings, reduce glare and transmit up to 65% of the daylight entering through the building envelope, to lower energy requirements and improve user comfort.
Bencore panels with satin facings diffuse backlighting for even illumination and visual effect.
Bencore panels can be specified to achieve lighting goals.
Satin-faced panels are perfect for diffuse backlighting, while transparent-faced panels transmit daylight – the larger the cell, the higher the Visible Light Transmission.

Just as it directs sight lines, honeycomb directs light rays.
In fact, honeycomb amplifies diffuse light because light bounces within the honeycomb cells.
Some daylight is transmitted directly, and most is diffused, to reduce the energy required for artificial lighting, reduce glare, and increase user comfort.
The degree to which daylight is transmitted directly or diffused depends on the panel type chosen.
Satin facings ensure total diffusion when desired – the perfect choice for backlit walls – while transparent facings allow views and some direct light, and both factors can be increased by increasing the honeycomb cell diameter. View all product options here.
2. Transparency and Views :
our unique bonding technology applies adhesive only at the honeycomb cell wall, leaving the cell openings completely transparent.
This high degree of transparency provides views to improve user comfort and productivity.
Where privacy is preferred or to achieve light diffusion, satin finishes also available.

WHAT IS DIRECTIONAL TRANSPARENCY? A UNIQUE FEATURE OF HONEYCOMB
Lines of sight are physically directed through the cellular structure of Bonded Series honeycomb panels, and a variety of factors can be manipulated to achieve design goals of visibility and privacy, transparency, color and texture.
Directional transparency means that the degree of transparency of the Bonded Series panel varies dynamically, through movement, as the angle of the viewer’s line of sight changes and as the viewer’s distance to the panel changes.
Directional transparency and related factors such as privacy, views, and the prominence – or not – of texture and color are further determined by non-dynamic, static factors such as the cell diameter, and the facing finish (transparent or satin).
DIRECTIONAL TRANSPARENCY IS EXPERIENCED DYNAMICALLY

3. Low Weight, High Strength :
Honeycomb technology provides an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio.
Unlike cast resin sheets or glass, which weigh two to five times more, Bencore panels are self-structural, requiring little or no additional support structure.
Their lightweight and outstanding stiffness makes them very easy to handle and very quick to install.
A typical Bencore panel weighs between 20 and 30 pounds and does not flex. A single installer, saving time and labor onsite, can carry it.
The panels’ exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio also means that little or no structural support is needed, saving time and materials.

Bencore Panels are 70/80% air
Bencore panels apply honeycomb technology to produce lightweight, self-structural composite panels using 70-80% less raw material than a solid resin sheet of comparable thickness, to reduce environmental impact and make installation more efficient.
Honeycomb core consists of a lightweight cellular network in which each cell wall acts like the web of an I-beam, when the honeycomb is bonded to thin facings.
The resulting sandwich panel has the exceptional stiffness and strength of a network of small I-beams while maintaining a very low weight.
4. Sustainability, Recycle, Reuse :
some Bencore panels are made with 100% recycled material (Ecoben Wave) and all of them are fully recyclable. External layers and cores in PMMA, PC, PETG are fully recycled after use.
Same thing happens for the honeycomb in aluminum and cardboard.
Bencore Panels can be easily reused.
In the Mario Cucinella Architect Studio project, the office configuration has been changed and the same panels have been reused in the new walls and doors configuration.
Easy to demount and re install.
The newly introduced Greencast® Bencore Panels are made with fully recycled PMMA external sheets .
PMMA is the only thermoplastic material that can be recycled in order to obtain the original raw material, the regenerated monomer (R-MMA).
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Bencore is also very attentive to the quality of internal environments: the adhesives used in manufacturing the panels do not present harmful emissions VOC = zero (Volatile Organic Compounds = 0)

7. Thermal insulation :
Bencore panels are comparable with other dividing solutions for interiors when looking at thermal insulation.
Starlight Plus 34 mm has a value of U = 2.3 W/m2*K, so it is comparable with a double glass or with a stone wall 50mm thick (U = 2.25 W/m2*K).
8. Acoustic performance :
Sound Proofing (Rw)
Bencore panels have a soundproofing performance comparable to similar glass dividing walls.
The performance of Starlight Plus 34mm (Rw = 30 dB) is comparable to the one of a double glazing glass,
with 6mm glass on both sides (31dB) or to the one of a compact glass with 10mm thickness for internal dividing walls Rw = 33db
(Rw = Weighted Sound Reduction Index is a number used to rate the effectiveness of a soundproofing system or material).
In this comparison, Bencore panels are competitive for the lightweight and ease to install compared to glass.
Acoustic absorption (αw)
Lightben Acoustic 17mm has a coefficient αw = 0.40 comparable with fiber panels (ie: polyester)
which are specific products for acoustic absorption, but with thickness of 50 mm up.
In this case, Bencore Panels has advantages for its transparency, design and lightweight.

Bencore has realized several project in the past years where acoustic issue was the most important for the client.
Among Bencore Panels offered for this specific purpose, Lightben Acoustic is the right one when acoustic performance

The acoustic certificate of Lightben Acoustic shows that the alfa coefficient is = 0.40 and the NCR (Noise Reduction Coefficient)
is 0.45 (Peutz NV Laboratories, The Netherlands) – see certificate in Bencore web site.
The alfa (coefficient is the amount of sound energy absorbed by the acoustic material, when sound wave incident upon it.
Generally, sound absorption is given in terms of Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC); it is scalar representation of energy absorbed by the surface.
0<=<=1. The higher the value, the higher is the sound absorption capacity of the material, therefore its sound absorption power.
If the coefficient is equal to zero, the sound energy is completely reflected; if equal to one, it is completely absorbed.
9. Fire performance :
several Bencore Panels are certified for fire resistance in various countries. In case a specific project needs fire certifications, Bencore Technical Office is able to study the best possible product configuration to respond to specific requirements.
In case a project requires fire certifications that are stricter, it is possible to use also glass protection for Bencore Panels that can reach higher fire resistance performances.

10. Quality and durability :
Bencore Panels do not suffer from aging in time, in the visual aspects or in color (yellowing, degradation). Bencore has several projects installed more than 10 years ago that are in perfect conditions, aesthetical and technical.
Bencore Panels have a very strong scratch resistance. Acrylic (PMMA) is the material that is mainly used for external sheets of the panel; it is a thermoplastic polymer extremely translucent, obtained through polymerization of methyl methacrylate monomer.
PMMA is considered in the market as the only real lightweight alternative to glass, due to its translucency, aesthetics and scratch resistance. For this reason sometimes, it is also called “acrylic glass” – abrasion resistance from 0.5% to 1% following ISO 14782.
